WHY FINGER JOINTED, LAMINATED AND/OR COMPOSED?
The method of finger jointing, laminating and composing was developed by European wood working industry way back in 1970s. With the dwindling worldwide wood supply, it is imperative that wood workers must improve their recovery of wood being processed and be more efficient in their utilization.
Gemelina as a raw material for moldings and doors is a very hard to process. It is observed that during kiln drying the lumber moves, twists and bows, aside from the fact that the wood is usually peppered with knots and a spiraling center core. Because of these, Patwoods must cut its grain every 48” to prevent it from moving and to cut it further to as short as 12” to remove the center core and knots in the lumber to be processed as moldings and doors.
ADVANTAGES OF FINGER JOINTED, LAMINATED AND/OR COMPOSED:
1. Wood is more stable it will not warp, twist or wane.
2. Lesser rejects and no knots
3. More easy to process.
4. Improve efficiency in utilization.
5. Better Paint finish
6. Lesser cost in finishing and painting
